Because the work of mothering is of such immense importance, the blessings as well as the losses we may have experienced in mothering or being mothered are just as immensely significant so we want to give thanks for you, whatever your story as a mother or a child may be, because every story deserves to be told and heard and given thanks for.

For those women who have left earth too soon and whom we miss dearly.

For every woman now raising children who is making sacrifices for her children’s becoming.

For those women who have lost their children, through miscarriage, abortion or death. Whose children no longer walk this earth but still mark their lives and are held in their hearts.

For those women who have taken in others’ children through adoption and foster care, showing us that the love of God far extends beyond biological ties.

For those women who have a spirit of motherhood and carried a wish for children in their hearts but have been unable to birth them because of infertility, relationship status or lack of support.

For those women with grieving hearts for children with futures so different from what they hoped.

For mothers in which our relationships are complicated, difficult or strained, who have forced us to choose healthier paths for our lives.

For the special neighbors, teachers, mentors, friends and spiritual mothers who’ve nurtured us, supported us and helped us to become the people we are today.

For those in other special circumstances who feel their stories of mothering or being mothered are misunderstood or unseen.

We give thanks for them all.

We give thanks for any who have played the role of a mother for us. For those who have comforted us when we are wounded in body and spirit. For those whose hearts or bodies were broken and sacrificed so that we might have greater life. For those who loved us without condition or expectation. For those whose love provided fierce protection and courageous loyalty. For those who enjoyed and delighted in us just as we are. Thank you for giving us those that mirror the mothering heart of God, and may we all, women, men and children reflect that heart back to those we choose to call family, to the church and to the world.
